Five Best Deal Sites

November 25, 2012 at 11:23 am

by Nick Allen

Check out lifehackers 5 best deal sites, as listed by their readers. I frequently visit many of these sites, if I’m ever shopping for something.

Technology, services, clothing, you name it; these sites have the best deals available. A few of these sites are user managed with live submissions from consumers as they reap the benefits of the deals they’re posting. And of course, a few are also corporate outlets too. Read more →

L.A. Times Travel Feature

September 13, 2011 at 10:16 am

by Nick Allen

Recently the L.A. Times Travel desk approached me to make use of some of my images of Grand Falls, AZ. No compensation sadly, but the exposure is more than enough for me; especially since I didn’t do anything to get this going.

Grand Falls is a strange place. The beginning of the Little Colorado, which becomes the “big” Colorado river that cut the infamous Grand Canyon into our world. Grand Falls, or sometimes called Chocolate Falls for it’s muddy waters, actually has a greater vertical drop than Niagara Falls does.

Well, here’s the feature (I’m the first and last pics): http://www.latimes.com/travel/deals/la-trb-offbeat-traveler-grand-falls-in-arizona-20110902,0,6718933.photogallery

Here are some more of my Grand Falls pics:

Sublime Dzine in the Arizona Daily Sun

August 9, 2011 at 4:01 pm

by Nick Allen

Finding the Right Focus | Arizona Daily SunInside a small coffee shop north of downtown Flagstaff, Trish Rensink and Jamey Hasapis are leading a conversation designed to help the business of a self-described “genius” grow.

The two-hour discussion with Nicholas Allen touches on a variety of topics, from refining a mission statement for a one-man shop to determining where the young, tech-savvy artist wants to be in a few years.

The morning might seem to the casual observer to be largely an intellectual exercise, but the stakes are huge.

Seven out of 10 new small businesses survive to their second anniversary, but only about half survive after five years, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Rensink and Hasapis say the mission of their company, the BelleWether Group, to help as many clients focus their direction and resources on best -serving their customers.

Their meeting with Allen started with a concrete list of the services he currently provides under the umbrella of his business, Sublime D. Zine.

He hands them a “scribble list” with various technical and creative services he has been providing to various Flagstaff clients. The neatly typed single sheet of paper lists web design and development, graphic design, search engine marketing and optimization and blog design/creation.

“Here are things I do and here are the things I don’t do,” he says.

Biz-Nas News

by Nick Allen

Finally became a member of the Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce. I’ll be at the upcoming Good Morning Flagstaff breakfast event on Wednesday March 9 at 7am [early!]. These events are a great way to build your name and meet quite a few business owners, old and new, in Flagstaff and the surrounding areas. You have a chance to speak to every business rep and to exchange business cards.

One last thing, I’m also volunteering some of my time and services to the Shadows Foundation, a nonprofit that helps families dealing with life threatening illnesses. Vicki [the founder] and Shadows helps these individuals and families with pretty much anything the insurance and other organizations can’t or won’t help with. Literally “life savers”, but even that’s an understatement.

We’re holding a couple of fund raising golf tournaments this year to help raise funds for the foundation and to raise awareness about the illnesses the Shadows Foundation and benefactors are battling. Click here to join us for some great golf or to help the Shadows Foundation.

Featured Artist at the ACF

March 7, 2011 at 5:31 pm

by Nick Allen

Make sure to check out the Artists’ Coalition of Flagstaff Gallery where I’m showing as the featured artist for March. You can see quite a few of my photographs at the gallery, here on my site, and all of them on my Flickr page.

Being the featured artist this month, I got a spot in the Noise, a local arts & news magazine for Northern Arizona. Here’s the article text:

Making Tracks – by Clair Anna Rose

Photographer Nick Allen became involved with the Artists’ Coalition of Flagstaff after designing their website. Besides being a photographer he runs his own design company, Sublime Dzine.

“I seem to do best when I’m just part of the place,” Mr. Allen says, “Some other animal in the woods, or some other guy at the party, disappearing really. People are a challenge for me sometimes, I feel it’s only polite to let someone know you’re photographing them, but that changes the way we present ourselves. You have to be invisible to get that true emotion from someone else through a camera. I think the same goes for nature and animals; as soon as you make yourself known, everything changes.”

Nature tends to be his primary focus when shooting, and travel has played a big part in his photography. “My wife and I traveled a lot before we became pregnant recently, and my camera was everywhere I went,” Mr. Allen shares. “We made tracks in London, Jamaica, Mexico, DC, and all over the West here in the past couple of years. I have an Olympus waterproof point and shoot I always carry that’s survived a three story drop at the cardinals stadium, dove to about 40 feet when I dropped it in the Caribbean, and saved my leg when I crashed my motorcycle; and it still works!”

Mr. Allen is the featured artist for the month of March at the ACF Gallery, 13 North San Francisco Street, Suite 103. An opening reception will be held during the First Friday ArtWalk from 6pm to 9pm on March 4, 2011.

Today, there are so many customer access points that simply having a web site is not enough. Web 2.0 and social media sites dominate much of today’s Internet user’s time, and they’re talking about you. Join the conversation and let Sublime Dzine help you start one of your own with custom web 2.0 and social medial sites.

You can add local maps and listings to the list of digital real estate you need to acquire too. An eye-catching and functional web presence will increase your Internet, local market exposure, and attract your desired client base. A functional site will include clear messages, ensure you provide users answers to their initial questions; a strong call to action, make sure your users take that next step with You; and an organized user interface, navigating your web site should be easy and flow with the information.

Increase your online visibility, click conversions, and repeat web traffic by hiring Sublime Dzine to increase your traffic from search engines through search engine optimization and pay-per-click advertising. Everyday your clients are “asking” the search engines for your products and services; are you answering? Answer their questions and drive traffic to your website by achieving page 1 rankings in search engines for valuable keywords when you hire Sublime Dzine for your online marketing needs.

Sublime Dzine will conduct keyword research to reveal your most valuable search terms, build your website architecture and content for on and off-page optimization, perform link building and article creation to increase page rankings, analyze website analytics to help measure results achieved, and create regular, relevant, and fresh content for your readers.
